About Us

Luna Bleu is a diversified organic farm in central Vermont.

 

We, Tim Sanford and Suzanne Long, started Luna Bleu in 1989 farming on leased land, first, in Lebanon and Plainfield, New Hampshire then in South Strafford, Vermont. (ancient history!) We have been farming on this land in South Royalton since 1993. 

 

Everything we grow is certified organic and we wouldn't do it any other way.

For us organic doesn't just mean we don't use synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers (although all of that is true), it also means managing the soil and whole farm ecosystem to build soil and thus plant health and nutrition. Watch this short video to hear what Suzanne has to say about the role organic farming plays in fighting climate change.

 

We are busy and productive 12 months of the year, supplying our local customers with organic vegetables, chicken, and eggs at the Norwich Farmers Market and through our CSA.

 

We are two generations of farmers

 

Our daughter Shona Sanford-Long was born on a Sunday in May and went to her first Norwich Farmers Market when she was 6 days old. She and her brother Lucas were part of a pack of farm kids that roamed the market in those early days.

​

​Fast forward to 2018, after working with livestock at various farms/ranches around the US, Shona returned with her future husband Hugo to help us on our farm. A few years later she bought our beef cattle, pigs and sheep and started her own organic pasture-raised meat business Flying Dog Farm and Hugo continued his career as a chef.  

​

In 2021 Flying Dog Farm moved to the historic Holstein Stock Farm in Tunbridge as the first land steward of the newly formed White River Land Collaborative of which Shona and Suzanne are founding members.
