Winter on a vegetable farm in VT used to be pretty quiet, but not anymore…or at least not here…. We vend at two or three farmers’ markets a month  and we have monthly CSA shares.  Our greenhouses have lots of spinach which, so far, we have been able to harvest for every market and CSA share.  Other fall planted greens are waiting to come out of dormancy  in  February.  Soon we will starting more seedlings…

Of course we still have all the animals to attend to.  The chickens are in the greenhouse that will be planted to tomatoes early in the season.  Randy, the sow, is in her shelter down by the orchard.  We can keep an eye on her from our kitchen window.  The cows mostly hang out in the barn, but unless the weather is really bad, they stroll out into the snowy pastures regularly.  The cats are often just by the woodstove and the dogs are just happy to be where ever we are.

Still, we do have more time to sleep, read, enjoy the snow.  We have lots of planning for the next season to do and of course there are all the cleaning and organizing projects that we think we will get done in the winter…. hmmm.
